Hi guys, I'm in urgent need of some help.

The rear shocks on my 550 arent standard ones and the ones that are on there are far to short/soft. When you are 2 up, the whole of the back end touches the wheel causing nasty groves in the tyre, so obviously I need to change the shocks.

Can anyone tell me will the shocks for the 750 fit the 550? I have been offered some very very cheap, and after 2 years of battling cancer, I dont have much to spend at all, as my partner has been out of work looking after me. So if anyone can tell me the answer to the above, I might of found a pair of shocks for a 750 for £30 (is that a good price?)

Boy, I would like to have a spare set to use when I have a set at the suspension shop. PM me at your convenience with the info for the 550 shocks, and if they will ship to the US, we should have a deal. :)

I am guessing, Tony, that since this is your first bike, you're looking to not spend a whole lot on keeping your bike in good fettle. One of the problems with the stock shocks is that good though they are, it can be costly to rebuild them, and like any other shock, if it needs a rebuild and doesn't get one it will do a bad job making the bike behave.

Do you have stock shocks on the bike now, but ones that need a rebuild? Can you take the bike off the road, perhaps in the fall, for a few weeks? If the shocks need replacing, would you be willing to get shocks that are not so full-featured but were less expensive and would work perfectly for most typical street riding? There are many possible options, some of them a good bit less expensive than buying stock shocks in good shape, or having stock shocks refitted (my intention if I was to buy these shocks would be to have them rebuilt so I know they are in good condition, and probably have them modified like the other set I had done for vastly improved rebound damping -- not cheap, but stock shocks this old that don't get a rebuild are probably not really much of a bargain!)
