My engine is broken so i have to rebuild it. Before searching for parts to do it i would like to know if there are compatible bikes to use their engine as is. eg gpz 400 - 550 or others. thanks in adance

The bottom end of all the air-cooled inline 4 400s and 550s are the same, AFAIK, and the bottom end of the Ninja 600R is nearly identical and all the parts will interchange (the 600R has a chain tensioner for the intermediate drive chain whereas the air-cooled bikes do not, but otherwise the bottom ends are all the same). I believe the cams and heads are all the same as well, just the pistons and cylinders differ between the 400 and 550 air-cooled inline 4s from Kawasaki.

What's wrong with your motor, and what parts do you need?

So it would be easy just to just exchange the engine and put a 550 new one! Right?

That is correct. They use the same cylinder head, same deck height and crank AFAIK, and the bottom end and trans are identical. The carb tuning will be different, assuming they even have the same diameter carbs (I'm unsure of this one), but the charging system and ignition pickup are the same. Not sure about the CDI box but the coils are the same. If I was going to drop in a 550 motor I'd try to get the CDI box and the carbs with the motor just to be sure ignition and fueling were correct. If anyone has a Zephyr 400 factory shop manual I'd love to see the specs section for the ignition and carb jetting to compare against 550 settings so I'd know more about the differences, if any, in fueling and ignition.

Awesome! Very glad to hear that, and that's very good to know.

For future reference, if you don't mind, it would be great to hear exactly what you did and didn't swap over (carbs, ignition box?) for others who might find themselves in the same position as yourself.
