Hi there, has anybody tried to fit a 17 inch wheel from the zr 750 into the zr550 ?
If yes how it translates in terms of handling since the 550 mounts an 18inch one?

Dunno about the ZR750 wheel, but I know that the early model zxr400 17" wheel bolts right up to the 550 zephyr. It even takes the same rear brake rotor. Turn in will slow a little if you run a wider tire but your tire selection will really open up vrs the 18s.

Very nice! How hard was the conversion, and what did you do? And where did those upside down forks come from? How did you adapt the triples to the 550 steering head?

Sorry to hijack this tread, I am trying to put a set of ZXR400 wheels into my modified GPZ750, I have fitted Zephyr 550 forks triple trees and swing arm. I have just about managed to get the rear sorted but am really struggling with the front. I seems that the forks are not wide enough and the discs are too big! I cannot get the wheel central as the speedo drive unit is too wide and then the caliper mounts will not go on as the discs foul them. Please can anybody help here?? I am not sure if my wheels are 400L or H, does ths make any difference??
Thanks, Phil

Since we never got any 400s here, I can't help you with fitment, but there are good tires available for the stock 17" Zephyr front, they're just a shade narrower than the standard sportbike size. You can upgrade to GSX-R brakes with my adapter kit, so it might just be a lot easier to stick with the Zephyr front wheel, get aftermarket rotors and my caliper adapters, and install 00-02 GSX-R600 or GSX-R750 calipers and they will bolt right up and take the stock brake hoses (or whatever aftermarket you decide on). That'd sure save a lot of trouble as long as you don't mind the difference in wheel style between the front and rear...
